President Mahama Nominates 10 Regional Ministers and Prepares Key Security Appointments

President John Dramani Mahama has formally requested Parliament’s approval for the appointment of 10 regional ministers as part of his administration’s drive to strengthen governance and improve regional administration. A communication from the presidency has been sent to the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, for the vetting and confirmation of the nominees.

Northern Region – Ali Adolf John
Oti Region – John Kwadwo Gyapong
Volta Region – James Gunu
Eastern Region – Mrs. Rita Akosua Adjel Awatey
North-East Region – Ibrahim Tia
Ashanti Region – Dr. Frank Amoakohene
Upper East Region – Akamugri Donatus Atanga
Ahafo Region – Charity Gardiner
Savannah Region – Salisu Bi-Awuribe
Greater Accra Region – Hon. Linda Ocloo, MP
Outstanding Regions
Nominees for the Bono, Bono East, Central, Western, Western North, and Upper West Regions are yet to be announced.

Profiles of Selected Nominees
Dr. Frank Amoakohene (Ashanti Region): A medical professional and youth leader, Dr. Amoakohene has expertise in healthcare, governance, and public service. He holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, a Doctor of Medical Laboratory Science degree, and an MBA.

James Gunu (Volta Region): A veteran media practitioner and former MCE for Akatsi, Mr. Gunu holds advanced degrees in Journalism, Development Communication, and Local Government Administration.

Mrs. Rita Akosua Adjel Awatey (Eastern Region): A governance expert and advocate for women’s empowerment, Mrs. Awatey has an MPhil in Leadership and is pursuing a PhD in Migration.

John Kwadwo Gyapong (Oti Region): A former MP for Akan Constituency and current NDC Regional Chairman, Mr. Gyapong holds a Bachelor of Science in Education.

Akamugri Donatus Atanga (Upper East Region): With a background in education and human rights, Mr. Atanga has served in key local government roles.

Hon. Linda Ocloo (Greater Accra Region): A serving MP for Shai-Osudoku, Hon. Ocloo is a banking and finance expert.

Ali Adolf John (Northern Region): An experienced educator, Mr. John has held multiple roles within the Ghana Education Service.

Major Security Appointments Anticipated
President Mahama has also announced plans to unveil key security appointments by the end of the week, aimed at addressing the protracted conflict in Bawku and surrounding areas. The anticipated positions include the Ministers for Defence and Interior, National Security Coordinator, National Security Advisor, and Director of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI).

This development follows recent ministerial nominations in Finance, Energy and Green Transition, and the Office of the Attorney General and Justice, signaling the administration’s commitment to both governance and national security.
