Pan-African Parliament and African Court Establish Formal Collaboration Framework

The Pan-African Parliament (PAP) and the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights (AfCHPR) have entered into a historic Framework Agreement aimed at strengthening the promotion and protection of human rights across Africa. This agreement ushers in a new phase of cooperation between the African Union’s (AU) legislative and judicial bodies, marking a significant step toward reinforcing the continent’s human rights agenda.

As part of this collaboration, both institutions have pledged to work together on initiatives that address critical areas such as human rights, good governance, democracy, and the rule of law. Central to their efforts will be encouraging the ratification, domestication, and enforcement of African human rights instruments. In addition, they will work towards enhancing national legislative frameworks to ensure that human rights standards are effectively integrated and upheld at all levels of governance.

This partnership represents a powerful alliance that will not only promote human rights but also ensure that the decisions and standards set by the African Court are supported by legislative actions, bringing about meaningful change in the lives of African citizens.
