LEONE ROCK DONATES 1000 BAGS OF CEMENT TO PARLIAMENT

One of the leading mining companies in the Country Lone Rock Metal Group has on Monday 4/11/2024 donated one thousand bags of cement to the Parliament of of Sierra Leone for the construction of offices for Members of Parliament. The symbolic event took place at the Speaker’s Conference Room at Parliament Building at Tower Hill in Freetown.

Welcoming Leone rock officials, the Deputy Clerk of Parliament, Mr. Gilbert Bosco Nhabay, said the donation came at a time when Parliament is looking for support for the construction of offices for Members of Parliament. He went on to appriciate the donation and also highlighted the significant of the construction project and the challenges of MPs are facing for accommodation.

Presenting the donation to the Leadership of Parliament on behalf of the management of Leone Rock Mr. Ansu Momoh Director of Community Affairs said they have very cordial relationship with Parliament and MPs from Tonkolili District. He said the donation is part of their corporate social responsibility to support Parliament to construct offices for MPs. He expressed hope that the donation of one thousand bags of cement would kickstart the construction project.

Delivering his statement the Leader of Government Business, Hon.Mathew Sahr Nuyma appreciated the donation and alluded collaborative effort in development. He applauded the company for making Parliament their friend and also supporting the House for the construction of Officres for MPs

On his part, the Deputy Opposition Leader of Parliament, Hon.Daniel Koroma, welcomed the support. “lack of offices has been a major challenge for MPs”,.he said and went on to note that many MPs lack offices and many of the MPs use the canteen to do their job. He said through the dynamic powers of the Speaker and His deputy, they are doing tremendous work to improve the working conditions of MPs.”We are ready to support you to succeed”. He noted .
He acknowledged the work and support of Leone Rock Mining company toward the socio-economic development of the nation

In appreciating the donation, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon Ibrahim Tawa Conteh, said on behalf of the Speaker of Parliament, they appreciated the donation and went on to commend Leone Rock for the massive support to the Parliament of Sierra Leone. He commended past and current Leadership of Parliament for pushing the welfare of MPs. The Deputy Speaker also used the opportunity to express thanks to the Chinese Government for supporting Parliament for the construction of offices for MPs.
The Deputy Speaker disclosed that some construction companies and cement factories had been contacted for the construction project.
He also highlighted some of the changes Parliament have put in place for the security measures of the House.
He said they would inform the President about the donation.

Through the transformation of Parliament ,the Deputy Speaker said the former Speaker of ECOWAS Parliament has donated electronic machines for staff to log in during and after work in order ascertain working hours.
