From Resilience to Leadership: Female Farmers Shine at GAFAFAW’s 2nd Anniversary

The Ghana Association of Female Agricultural and Fish Farming Award Winners (GAFAFAW) has celebrated its 2nd Anniversary and Induction Ceremony under the theme “Rooted in Experience, Rising in Leadership: Rural Women at the Heart of Agricultural Transformation.”

The Ghana Association of Female Agricultural and Fish Farming Award Winners (GAFAFAW) has celebrated its 2nd Anniversary and Induction Ceremony under the theme “Rooted in Experience, Rising in Leadership: Rural Women at the Heart of Agricultural Transformation.”

The colourful event, held on August 26, 2025, at the Chandelier Macquee opposite the Trade Fair, brought together award-winning female farmers from across Ghana, the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Eric Opoku, major agricultural stakeholders, and sponsors.

In her welcome address, GAFAFAW President, Ernestina Osei Tutu, emphasized the importance of the gathering in advancing the mission of the association. “Today marks another important milestone in our journey as we continue to strengthen our bond and advance our mission together,” she said.

Hon. Eric Opoku, the Minister for Food and Agriculture, commended GAFAFAW for its leadership and acknowledged the vital role of women in shaping Ghana’s agricultural transformation. He praised their resilience and innovation, adding: “I wish to commend the leadership of GAFAFAW for bringing together such an astounding gathering of women who have demonstrated resilience, innovation, and excellence in Ghana’s agricultural sector.” The Minister further donated 1,000 bags of fertilizer in support of the group’s work.

Chairman of the occasion, Mr. Henry Kobina Crentil Jr., lauded the women for their impact on food security and reaffirmed his pride in supporting their initiatives.

Key partners, including ADB, Yara Ghana Limited, MoFA, and LBH, extended their congratulations and pledged continuous support to GAFAFAW’s mission of empowering women in agriculture.

The ceremony also featured the induction of new award-winning women into GAFAFAW and an impressive exhibition of Ghanaian-made agribusiness products and services, showcasing the innovation and entrepreneurial drive of women farmers.

The celebration was widely hailed as another step forward in championing women’s leadership in Ghana’s agricultural sector.
